Welcome

Welcome to my site, Aldodoro.com, home to information on my musical pursuits especially in the world of bass. My name is Allyn Dorr but everybody likes to call me Aldo. There's a story behind that but it's pretty basic really. You know AL DOrr makes ALDO.

Within these dark and dusty pages, you can find where I'm playing next, listen to the typical badly recorded samples, read as I drone on about my musical life and look at out of focus pictures of the bands I play with. If it that isn't boring enough, sooner or later, I'll be blogging you!

Bees Deluxe deal in the altered acid blues that so easily inhabits the aging hardwoods of the NoLo Bistro. You'll like it as much as we do, leather couchess, open fireplace, etc.

BLOG #3: Post-Pandemic

Wow! So, here it is, nearly the end of 2023 and I'm adding my first new blog since 2016. Minus 3 years more or less lost to the Pandemic, maybe it hasn't been that long. Anyway, there's no point in getting into the state of politics, the economy, world climate or world peace because this blog ain't going to solve anything. But music, oh my! The internet, the creator of universal access to the ears and eyes of the world, has evolved into an incredibly strong and cluttered river of artists and performances. New performers pop up regularly, each more amazing than the last, and we, the willing public have a endless variety of singers, instrumentalists, dancers, actors, painters etc. to explore and discover. The pandemic obviously has a tremendous affect on artists who met the lack of public performing opportunities by developing video, audio and written content. Not to mention, the voyage of self-discovery that I personally experienced and continue to witness through the artists that I follow or learn about on a daily basis. I can't wait to see what direction music and art take in the future as artists discard the old notions of "making it" and forge their identity across the Internet. Can't wait!

BLOG #2: Making our way in the Trump era

Wow, whether you're with him or against him, things certainly feel different after 11/8/16. And I don't mean becasue the Cubs finally won the World Series. As I write this, it remains to be seen what if anything will really change with The Donald as commander in chief. Sure, he's got a Rebulican Congress but at this writing, it doesn't seem like the Republicans are really united behind him. And the Democrats are similarly in some disarray after Hillary's defeat. Can the Democrats unite to uphold their platform or just continue to take the sour graps approach? I don't know either, What I do know is that life goes on and we all need to keep doing what we've been doing and for me that means making music as often and as enthusiastically as I can.In 2017 that includes Bees Deluxe, 2120 South Michigan Ave, KingStreet R&B Revue, Best of Friends and whatever else comes my way in the New Year. Music can be an antidote, an escape, an affirmation, an outlet, or soothe your jangled nerves. I hope you find your muse or learn to love someone else's muse for the joy that it brings to your life. And if you happen to come hear me play, I will do my best to take care of your mucial needs and wants to the best of my ability, Amen.

BLOG #1

I'm notoriously bad about promoting myself and the bands that I play for yet I've owned the aldodoro.com site for years. It's finally time to put up or shutup. Or have fun. Exactly my plan for these blogs and the whole Aldo site.

Playing music, working with musicians and hanging with fans and friends has been an important part of my life since I was a teenager and opened up my life to a wealth of experiences, adventures and new friends (including my wife!) that I hope to acknowledge on this flickering screen as I build out these pages.

So, tune in, turn up and enjoy. I hope I drop your name or you drop mine and maybe one of these days we can hang out or play a few tunes together.
